What Is a Network Management Suite?

A network management suite is a type of software that enables businesses and organizations to manage their networks. There are many types of software that are capable of doing this, which is the reason for the development of suites. Suites provide multiple types of software bundled together that can perform many network-related tasks, such as sending out alerts when problems occur, measuring performance, and managing security. These types of software are used by most organizations to ensure their networks run well the majority of the time.

One of the major tasks of a network management suite software package is its ability to ensure that the network is working properly. This can be done automatically or manually, both where the network is located and remotely, depending on the specific type of software being used. It is the task of the network management suite to detect problems, create a log of them within the system, and alert management that there is a problem. The software attempts to fix problems in areas where it has been programmed to do so.

Performance measurement is another major task of a network management suite. This includes such things as measuring user response time, the amount of bandwidth being delivered by an Internet service provider (ISP), and the general use of the system. After measurements are taken, an analysis is performed so that a baseline can be created to measure performance against in the future. This helps network managers determine their needs for changing the network, if growth occurs within the organization, and to ensure that the system runs smoothly.

Security is another aspect of a network management suite. This helps organizations protect confidential information and systems, and can include monitoring use and limiting the amount of people who have access to certain parts of the system. Viruses and other harmful outside influences on the network are monitored and removed by the software once they are detected.

The last main task of a network management suite is to help configure the different components working together, whether hardware or software. Networks often have a variety of machines being used, with different software for many applications. Due to this fact, it can be hard to understand where a problem stems from when it occurs. The network management suite software helps locate the origination of the problem so that network administrators can attempt to fix it in a fast and cost-effective manner.
